Slowly Growing My Cake Business

As I already shared, my cake following started with my Kahluá cakes. I began giving them as gifts and little by little people started asking for more and the orders started coming in. In addition to the Kahuá cakes, I also sell quite a number of layered cakes. The orders for my layered cakes came just as organically as the others.

For my children’s birthdays, I always make their cakes. My children’s friends started tasting my layered cakes at their birthday parties. When the friends birthdays rolled around, they would ask their parents for the cake they had at my son’s or daughter’s party. Parents would call to find out where I purchased the cakes and I would let them know I made them. They then asked if I would be willing to make the cake for their child’s party and of course, I said yes. I have never advertised for any of the cakes I have sold. Instead of being through word of mouth, it has literally been through taste that they have sold. I share this with you to let you know that although you might not have a start-up budget or marketing funds it doesn’t mean that you can’t start something. True, without an initial investment your growth will be slower than if you were all-in, but if you’re determined to make something happen, you can.

This steady growth has been over the last couple of years and now I am asked to not only make cakes for people, but a variety of cakes for corporate gifts and events. If there is something you think you can do, you can make it happen.
